Project Description
For the first time since Covid, Waid Academy recently held its Christmas Fair and Coffee Morning.
The school’s pupil leadership team were tasked with organisation of the event to help them develop their leadership and organisational skills. Working with SRUC and Fife College, the school’s young people produced items and hosted stalls. Proceeds from the event were shared between Samaritans and school funds.
SRUC teachers led the school college partnerships horticulture and leading outdoor learning classes to create holly wreaths and table decorations with staff coming along to help on the day. Fife College’s Personal Development Award group worked with additional support needs pupils to create Christmas Eve snack boxes, printed coasters and a student cookbook.
After making their products and planning their stalls, students were able to meet members of the public to sell to them, building their confidence and communication skills, and also helping their numeracy and teamwork skills.
The pupils really enjoyed the whole experience, from the planning, practical activities and the actual event itself. They found it all fun but at the same time were working towards various units and awards.
