Project Description
Linking the worlds of school and work with Balwearie pupils
A group of six S3 pupils at Balwearie High School recently had a visit from Allan Ferguson Bespoke Carpentry and Joinery.
Allan is a key contact within the Design and Technology Department at Balwearie and regularly delivers workshops and presentations to our young people to help show another side to joinery – not just building sites but more high-end bespoke pieces being made for large projects where a higher premium can be charged.
Allan is currently working on a project for Heritage Scotland and brought some of the pieces he is currently working on with him to the session. He used this to demonstrate how the skills our young people are learning in class are relevant to the world of work.
The young people involved found the session extremely useful as they were able to chat to Allan about his work and ask any questions they had about pursuing a career in Joinery or Carpentry and seeing first-hand how the skills they are developing within the classroom link with the different jobs available.
The session was a great success and we hope to welcome Allan back again soon to work with our senior woodworkers.
