Project Description
On 30 January DYW (Fife) was proud to have held a ‘Scotland’s Biggest Parent’s Evening’ event at St Brycedale Campus in Kirkcaldy.
The evening was created in partnership with Skills Development Scotland, Fife College and Fife Council and saw local employers showcase critical skills and gave all attendees a glimpse into occupations and skills of the future.
The event was developed to increase the understanding of the critical skills and occupations that will provide rewarding careers in the future, supporting economic growth and encourage more young people in Fife to make informed career choices.
With support from Fife-based businesses, including TechnipFMC, DPS, St Andrews Links Trust and Kaber Helm, it was brilliant to see so many like-minded people together in one room. It gave a great overview of the changing world of work and how it may look in the years to come, including some great information being shared about apprenticeships, skills development, careers support and work-based learning.
Ryan Hepburn, DYW Fife Lead at Fife Council, said of the event,
“The world of work is changing, and we felt it was important to support Scotland’s Biggest Parent’s Evening to allow parents and carers to learn more about the jobs of the future. Attendees had the opportunity to hear first-hand from industry and apprentices about the skills and qualifications that young people will need, which has been invaluable in helping them to make informed choices about their future. Feedback from exhibitors, employers, parents, carers and young people on the night was really positive and we hope to have more events of this nature in Fife.”
