On 22 January, Glenwood High School hosted a Business Breakfast to thank employers and partners for their support and to explore how they could continue to help the school improve DYW engagement and positive destinations for young people.

The event recognised the time and commitment businesses have already given, while also creating space to discuss Glenwood’s future goals and the next steps for employer involvement.

Collaborative Partners

Attendees included:

Specsavers, Semefab, DPS Group, Babcock, Fife Council Building Services, Royal Air Force, Home Sweet Homes Estate Agency, Robertsons Construction, Fife Voluntary Action, Leviton, University of Dundee, University of St Andrews, DiGiCo, Electrical Asset Services, Dears Pharmacy, Royal Navy, Kennedy Slaw Law, DYW and Fife College.

These partners already support the school through work experience, curriculum activity, STEM engagement, careers events, site visits and apprenticeship preparation.

Programme Aims

The Business Breakfast aimed to:

• Thank employers for their support

• Share Glenwood’s DYW journey so far

• Highlight successful partnership work through case studies

• Encourage discussion about future collaboration

• Ask businesses how they could support the school’s short- and long-term goals

 

Activity Overview

Guests were welcomed with breakfast in the Assembly Hall, creating time for informal conversation between employers, pupils and staff.

This was followed by a presentation from school staff, covering Glenwood’s school context, positive destination figures and the school’s DYW journey so far.

Partnership case studies, including:

• Specsavers – contextualised curriculum learning

• Semefab – work experience

• Fife Council Building Services – industry insight and apprenticeship preparation

• Babcock – STEM engagement

• Careers Fayre partners – raising awareness of future pathways

• Glenwood’s future DYW goals

• A call for more work experience opportunities

• The importance of SCQF and wider qualifications, and how employers can engage with these.

 

Impact and Outcomes

The event helped strengthen relationships between Glenwood and its employer network by showing the real impact of partnership working and encouraging further involvement.

Key outcomes included:

• Greater awareness of how businesses already support young people

• Stronger employer relationships through networking and discussion

• More visibility for Glenwood’s future DYW priorities

• A clear invitation for partners to get involved in new ways
