Project Description

A creative S1 student at Bell Baxter High School in Cupar has been announced as the winner of an exciting competition to support Mission Christmas’ Fundraising appeal and has won a virtual tour of Tay FM for her class.

Cash for Kids supports children and young people affected by poverty, abuse, neglect, life-limiting illness and those who have additional needs. Based across 22 areas in the UK, at the heart of local radio stations such as Tay FM, Cash For Kids is a grant-giving charity helping community groups, other charitable organisations, schools and individual causes.

Each year, Cash For Kids runs a fundraising project, Mission Christmas, looking for donations and fundraising to provide gifts for children. This year, they also ran a competition in schools, asking pupils to use their creativity to support fundraising for Mission Christmas, which was open to all Primary and Secondary pupils in Dundee & Angus, Perth & Kinross and North East Fife.

As part of Developing the Young Workforce in Fife, Bell Baxter High School runs a course for S1 and S2 pupils as part of the curriculum, in order to help young people to prepare for the world of work from the early stages of their secondary school education. Through their DYW class activities, 580 Bell Baxter pupils took part in the project.

The mission for school pupils was to either create a short video or artwork that would be used to send a digital thank you to everyone that supports the annual Mission Christmas Campaign, or to come up with creative ways to fundraise online and market Radio Tay’s Mission Christmas campaign.

In January, the winning entry was revealed to be from 11 year-old S1 student, Olivia Wiech, whose creativity has secured the first prize in the competition – a video call and chat with Radio Tay’s Presenters and a virtual tour of the radio studio for her whole class!

Well done to Olivia and to all of the young people across Fife, Dundee and Angus and Perth and Kinross for taking part and helping to support such a fantastic cause in Cash For Kids and the Mission Christmas campaign!
