Project Description
Fife Council Building Services Showcase Apprenticeship Pathways
Eight pupils from Glenrothes High School attended the Fife Council Building Services Apprenticeship event on 19th June 2023.
The Building Services Manager delivered a fantastic presentation on what is required to gain an apprenticeship with Fife Council Building Services. This give pupils an incredible insight into what is required to successfully gain entry to an apprenticeship programme.
The presentation was followed by a ‘Hazard Perception’ workshop which allowed our pupils to get in the mindset of what to look out for on building sites.
Glenrothes pupils were then invited to participate in several practical workshops that included Joinery, Electrical and Plumbing scenarios.
Each pupil was given ample time to complete a short task at each of the stations relating to the specific trade with support was on hand from the apprentice workers. The advice from the apprentices was invaluable as the pupils worked through their scenarios and learned more about their day-to-day roles in the industry.
Some of the feedback from our pupils:
Arron said “Today was excellent and has really made me think about applying. I loved how apprentices got to rebuild parts of the house as part of a test to pass your apprenticeship”.
Oliver said “I really enjoyed that today and I will be applying in January. I wanted to be a brick layer but now I am considering being a Plumber after speaking with Rob and Neil today”.
Bartosz said “Huge thank you to the team today, I loved getting to know about the Hazard perception. I now feel like I know a lot more about this than I did before the event”
