Project Description
Now in its second successful year, the Fife Business Breakfast and Showcase Exhibition returned on Monday, 17th June, with a powerful mission: to raise the profile of Fife’s growth sectors and inspire the region’s young people to see a future for themselves in local industry.
The event brought together employers, educators, and school pupils from S4 to S6, mainly those preparing to transition into further education or employment. The aim was clear: to help young people understand the real-world relevance of their studies and show them that exciting opportunities exist right in their own communities.
A Morning of Insight and Inspiration
The day began at 8:30am with breakfast and networking, followed by a warm welcome from John Penman, DYW Fife Chair and Managing Director of Fife Fabrications.
Attendees then heard from guest speaker Sarah Forbes of CITB (Construction Industry Training Board), representing the NEST (New Entrants Support Team), who shared insights into how the construction industry is investing in young talent.
Further contributions came from key DYW Fife partners, who discussed opportunities and challenges across their sectors and the importance of engaging the next generation.
A highlight of the morning was the Young Persons Panel, where several young people shared their own journeys into the world of work. These personal stories gave employers real-life context around the barriers young people face and the difference supportive businesses can make in helping them thrive.
The morning session closed with an audience Q&A and final reflections from John Penman, leaving participants energised and inspired.
Afternoon Showcase Connects Students with Opportunity
After a short break, the venue was transformed into a bustling business showcase. From 11:00am to 2:30pm, two waves of students from across Fife schools arrived to meet employers, explore career options, and discover the live opportunities available to them — from Modern and Graduate Apprenticeships to work placements and more.
Throughout the afternoon, businesses had the opportunity to raise awareness of the roles and pathways they offer while also learning about new school-to-work tools like the Workit platform, designed to strengthen the bridge between education and employment.
Shaping Fife’s Future Workforce
The Business Breakfast and Showcase Exhibition doesn’t just help young people, it also motivates employers. Hearing directly from students and seeing their enthusiasm firsthand encouraged local businesses to get more involved in our efforts.
This event plays a vital role in DYW’s mission to ensure that all young people in Fife have access to real opportunities and clear pathways into fulfilling careers.
As the event continues to grow in scale and impact, Fife is leading by example in how local collaboration between industry and education can shape a resilient, future-ready workforce.
