Amy, a second-year Quality Technician Apprentice, stands out as a testament to the success and advantages of apprenticeships. In this special Staff Spotlight feature, Amy shares her journey and insights into the world of apprenticeships, emphasising the role they play in fostering personal and professional growth. What is your role and what does it involve?
I am a quality technician apprentice within Fife Fabrications. The key role in this department is to ensure the high-quality standards/procedures we have as a company are being implemented by all, as I have learnt quickly since starting my exciting career here, quality is everybody’s responsibility. This is achieved by carrying out a successful quality assurance plan, supporting colleagues within production, inspecting products at each stage of the production process, addressing any customer needs, and providing solutions efficiently. No two days are the same within the quality department and I enjoy the variation.
How did you learn about FiFab and why did you want to work for the company?
I always knew I wanted to gain an apprenticeship as I feel apprenticeships are an invaluable opportunity for young people like myself to be able to work and learn at the same time. I was always aware of Fife Fabrications as I had seen and read online about the countless things the company has done to support the local communities in and around Glenrothes and I knew this was a company I would enjoy working for. I did not have any doubts about starting my career here at FiFab as the help and support I was going to receive was evident before I had even started.
What is the best thing about working for FiFab?
Even though I have not worked for the company for too long there are many things I enjoy about working here. There is a real sense of community within the workplace and as an apprentice I could not be more thankful for this as everyone is incredibly supportive towards me and I look forward to being able to do the same for others in the future. The ethos of FiFab is great and the company is keen to help you develop your career as best they can. Currently, I have progressed to my HNC in fab/weld at Fife college which was encouraged.
What is next for Fifab?
Fife fabrications is a very innovative company that really cares for each individual customer, creating relationships and experiences rather than just providing goods. In terms of the quality department the company currently has and operates to the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 and this is something we aim to continuously achieve.
What is next for your career with Fifab?
As I mentioned previously management at FiFab are keen to support you to develop your career further and currently I have progressed to my HNC in fabrication, welding, and quality at Fife college. Now after my first year being full time at college, I am enjoying my time back in the workplace getting experience in different departments and gaining invaluable knowledge from my colleagues.
