This initiative was part of a wider invitation extended to schools across Fife, aiming to showcase the diverse career pathways available within the NHS.

Objectives

  • To raise awareness of the variety of roles within the NHS.
  • To inspire pupils to consider careers in health and social care.
  • To provide hands-on experiences that build practical understanding and interest.
  • To strengthen school-employer engagement in support of Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) goals.

Activity Highlights

Twelve pupils from Madras College, spanning S4 to S6, participated in the event. They engaged in themed workshops tailored to their interests, covering areas such as:

  • Nursing
  • Allied Health Professions (Radiography, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Speech & Language Therapy)
  • Dental Services
  • Scottish Ambulance Services
  • Social Care & Social Work

A standout feature of the day was the Simulation Ward Experience, where pupils practiced clinical skills such as finding a pulse and using a stethoscope. They also interacted with Simulation Technicians who demonstrated cutting-edge training technologies used in preparing future healthcare professionals.

Impact and Feedback

The event provided valuable insights and sparked genuine interest in health and social care careers:

  • Sophie (S4): “The day was extremely fun, and I learned a lot. I enjoyed working with others and the day made me seriously consider going into social care in the future.”
  • Jose (S5): “It was an incredible opportunity and helped show what is involved in an Allied Health career. It was very enjoyable and informative.”
