Project Description

GlamCandy, in collaboration with the Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Fife Network, approached Levenmouth Academy to engage young people who had become withdrawn from their learning experiences. Recognising the potential of this initiative, Levenmouth Academy decided to invest in these students by organizing two courses for the 2023/24 academic year.

The main goal was to re-engage students through a practical and creative curriculum that would provide them with valuable skills and potential career opportunities in the beauty industry. The intended outcomes included increased student engagement, skill development, and exposure to career paths within the beauty sector.

Details of Involved Parties

GlamCandy is a private SQA accredited academy with multiple colleges across Scotland. Known for their expertise in beauty education, GlamCandy has a history of collaborating with schools to raise awareness of the beauty sector and deliver the SCQF Level 5 NPA Makeup Skills. Their involvement with DYW Fife stemmed from a desire to support local communities and provide young people with practical skills that can lead to further education and employment opportunities.

Levenmouth Academy identified a group of students who would benefit from an alternative approach to learning. By integrating GlamCandy’s makeup course into their curriculum, the school aimed to offer a unique and engaging educational experience that could inspire students and improve their overall academic engagement.

Activity Overview

During the 2023/24 school year, GlamCandy’s accredited makeup course became a core part of the Levenmouth Academy curriculum. A total of 56 young people participated, divided into three separate delivery groups. The NPA Makeup Skills course comprises three units:

  1. Day Makeup and Basic Corrective Makeup
  1. Bridal and Evening Makeup
  1. Contemporary Makeup

These units focus on teaching specific makeup styles, application techniques for both young and mature skin, and corrective techniques. This hands-on approach not only enhances students’ practical skills but also boosts their confidence and creativity.

The course’s comprehensive curriculum prepares students for further education in the beauty industry, such as pursuing an HNC in makeup. By the end of the course, students gain a solid foundation in key aspects of makeup artistry, positioning them well for future opportunities.

Conclusion

The introduction of the NPA Makeup Skills course at Levenmouth Academy has had a significant positive impact. Students who were previously disengaged found a renewed interest in their education through this creative and practical program. The hands-on nature of the course allowed them to develop new skills, build confidence, and explore potential career paths.

For GlamCandy, the partnership provided an opportunity to contribute to the local community and inspire the next generation of beauty professionals. By working with young people, GlamCandy not only promoted their industry but also identified potential future students for their advanced courses.
