Bell Baxter High School was delighted to take part in the 2026 Fife Dragon’s Den at Studio 8, Glenrothes, on 5 March 2026. The event brought together young people from primary and secondary schools across Fife to pitch social enterprise ideas linked to causes they felt passionate about. It provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to learn from others, share their own ideas, and contribute to shaping a more sustainable future.
On the day, the school’s Global Goals Captains and senior pupils confidently pitched their enterprise idea, H.K. Bags (Bags of Hope and Kindness), with passion, clarity and confidence. Bags of Hope and Kindness grew out of the school’s response to the Ukraine war in 2015. Since then, the school has continued to raise awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals through a whole-school approach, beginning with the creation of refugee welcome bags for those in need.
The pupils received highly positive feedback on their winning Dragon’s Den presentation. Kirsten Watson, Young People Coordinator at the Social Enterprise Academy, commented:
“I also wanted to say that everyone was absolutely blown away by the amount of work your young people had put in. They were such incredible and confident speakers, it really was amazing to watch them, and they were very worthy winners!”
As a result of their success, the school is now eligible for a Social Enterprise Schools Award and has been invited to the annual awards celebration at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on 8 June 2026. With a committed team of volunteers, an ongoing supply of donated bags from Multibank, and a clear sense of vision, drive and enthusiasm, the group is well placed to continue making a positive difference and helping to create a fairer world for all. Following the event, the Global Goals Captains, who lead the school’s Green Flag Award Eco-Schools Committee, were full of pride and had clearly grown in confidence.
The Global Goals Group forms part of the school’s wider commitment to Pupil Leadership and Global Citizenship. It also sits within the school’s Eco-Schools Green Flag Action Plan for Sustainability and supports the promotion of a Circular Economy and Developing the Young Workforce (DYW). This pupil-led group, made up of learners from S1 to S6, empowers and supports leadership across all year groups while strengthening the work of the Eco-Schools Green Flag Committee. Through this, pupils continue to develop important meta-skills, particularly in collaboration, critical thinking and leadership, including:
- Collaboration and creativity – using digital skills to create and deliver presentations
- Creativity and initiative – developing a range of activities to raise awareness of Learning for Sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals within the school and wider community
- Community collaboration – working with local NGOs and community groups to promote Fairtrade, raise funds through the sale of Fairtrade chocolate, and support gender equality through partnership with the Mamie Martin Fund
- Communication – encouraging others to support Bags of Hope and Kindness, both locally through donations for people in need and globally through fundraising for girls’ secondary education in Malawi
