Industry / sector: Construction
Activity Type: Work experience Businesses involved: community trade hub
Name of School: Lochgelly Highschool

This term, Lochgelly High School had their second wave of pupils begin their Level 1 course at the Community Trade Hub alongside their existing pupils who are on course to achieve their Level 2 qualification. At the Community Trade Hub the students learn a range of skills from joinery, plastering and painting and decorating. This helps them get a head start in the world of work and get a tase of potential trade careers they are interested in pursuing.

The pupils that go to the Community Trade Hub often have shown little desire to apply themselves to the school curriculum, so the trade hub can be a wonderful experience to help these students engage in education in a positive way.

Objectives

1.To help students engage in education in a different way when they struggle with the academic curriculum.

2.To empower students with the confidence to pursue a career in a trade of interest to them.

Outcomes

1.Increased confidence for the pupils in making the transition from education to the working world.

2.Young people are more assured regarding where they want to take their futures.

3.Young people are more educated on what skills they will need to develop for their chosen career path.

4.By engaging with local businesses, they are not only helping our students grow but also strengthening valuable partnerships within the community.

5.Students who normally struggle to attend school had 100% attendance rate at the community trade hub.
