Project Description
Trade Apprenticeships Prove Successful At Auchmuty High School
Following on from the Fife Council Building Services apprenticeship awareness events that were delivered by Neil McGregor, head of apprenticeships, to a number of schools across Fife last year, Neil and his team reached out again this year to offer the school the opportunity to visit the Fife Council apprenticeship training centre.
The aim of this event was to :-
- provide S3/S4 pupil’s interested in moving onto a trade apprenticeship, the opportunity to experience three of the main apprenticeship trades that Building Services offer in joinery, electrical and plumbing.
- Provide young people with information about the range of apprenticeships on offer at Fife Council Building services and what training would be provided if they were to apply and were successful
- Provide young people information on the application process and how to complete a successful apprenticeship application form
16 of our S4 pupils attended the training centre on Monday 25th September to take part in the workshops with the Fife Building Services Team.
As part of the workshop, young people were given input on health and safety, the range of apprenticeships on offer by Fife Council and awareness of what makes a successful application.
The pupils were divided into three groups for each of the three trade workshops and given 15-20 minutes to carry a practical skills task for each of their trades of plumbing, joinery and electrical, with each group rotating round the next activity once completed. Each of these workshops was delivered by current Building Services apprentices in each of these trades.
