Project Description
RAF Mighty Minds Workshop
On Wednesday 12th June Beath High School hosted the RAF Mighty Minds Workshop as part of the Fife STEM Festival. This was run in conjunction with Hyett Education and The Royal Airforce Youth Engagement Team.
STEM subjects cover science, technology, engineering, and maths with the objective of the workshop to provide our new S2 pupils with a positive STEM experience. The initiative looks to encourage pupil participation in STEM education and perhaps spark interest in STEM careers further down the road. As part of the day, students worked in teams to build, modify, and code robots from Lego to carry out a range of RAF themed challenges.
All 120 S2 pupils who took part in the course thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the enthusiasm from Jack and Annie was infectious. The groups all loved building and then customising their robots and using the iPad to work as teams to code them.
DYW Fife Coordinator Lorraine Thomson said,
“This was an enlightening session for our pupils and it was great to see so many young people take an interest in subjects that could shape their future careers. Thank you to the RAF Youth Engagement Team who were incredible with the children.”
