2023 Bam Apprenticeship Programme

Our 5 year technical apprenticeship starts at level 4, where you will work towards a Higher Apprenticeship (Level 4) in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or Construction Management and a HNC in your chosen subject. You will also work towards a professional qualification (Technical Membership of Institution of Civil Engineers / Institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors / Chartered Institute of Building)

Upon successful completion of the Level 4 programme, you will then have the opportunity to progress on to a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship, gain a full honors degree and work towards Incorporated membership of the ICE / ICES / CIOB.

Our Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying and Construction Management Apprentices attend Leeds College of Building  on a block release basis where accommodation will be provided.

Our Building Services Engineering and Digital Engineering Apprentices will attend one of our partner colleges across the UK.

What does a Civil Engineer do?

Civil Engineers are construction professionals who make up our site supervisory and management team. Our Civil Engineering Apprentices work predominantly outdoors, turning site plans into reality. On a daily basis, our Civil Engineering Apprentices will provide instruction to our skilled workforce using specialist setting out equipment, maintain diaries of site activity and ensure that work is carried out safely in line with the company Health and Safety procedures.

What does a Quantity Surveyor do?

Quantity Surveyors in Civil Engineering are part of the Commercial Management team. Commercial Management is the process that deals with the financial and legal aspects of Civil Engineering projects. Quantity Surveyors are construction professionals that have a working knowledge of contracts, law, finance, economics, tendering and procurement.

What does a Construction Manager do?

Construction Managers are responsible for delivering building projects such as schools, hospitals and office buildings. They manage a project from conception through to completion. Day to day they are responsible for managing subcontractors, liaising with clients and ensuring the quality and safe delivery of projects.

What does a Building Services Engineer do?

Building services engineers are responsible for the heating, water, electrical and telecoms systems inside a building. Think of it as being responsible for the heart and lungs of a building. An essential part of the job is to work out ways to lower carbon emissions, increase energy efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of buildings.

What does a Digital Engineer do?

Digital are responsible for producing detailed solutions to achieve the optimum performance of projects via digital models and presentations using software, sketches, and electronic visualisations. Entry-level Digital roles will typically support Digital Engineers or other functional specialists in completing complex tasks using digital engineering techniques.

Please note our Digital Engineering Programme starts at Level 3.

Who are we looking for?

Academic Requirements

  • GCSE grade 5 (B) or above in Maths
  • GCSE grade 4 (C) or above in English Language
  • 3 additional GCSE’s grade 4 and above

and

  • 2 x STEM A-Levels OR
  • Relevant Level 3 Qualifications (e.g Civil Engineering, Construction in the Built Environment, Finance, Maths, Business)

Person Specification

  • Disciplined and able to manage degree level study and a busy job role
  • Highly numerate with an attention to detail
  • Able to adapt when priorities change
  • Desire to develop a career in the construction industry.
  • Happy to work on site and travel as and when required

Additional Requirements

  • Due to the project nature of our business, Apprentices must be willing to travel and stay away from home when necessary
  • As some of our projects are in remote areas, we also require all applicants to hold or be working towards gaining a full UK driving license before September 2023
